Fishink Artwork and Andrew Shek’s Animals in motion

December 14, 2015

Happy Monday everyone, firstly I wanted to share a few new pieces that I’ve been working on. Some are available for sale or commission too, please enquire craig@fishink.co.uk if interested. More online here.

These proud cats have scampered off to Wall of Art in the Craft and Design Centre, Oak Street, Manchester. Well worth a visit for some beautiful and unique Christmas ideas. Do remember to support independent makers everyone this Christmas, it really does make a huge difference to their small businesses.

From last weeks Craft Fair, I have been asked for two commission pieces.  The black and white one below was for a family with a slightly stick-obsessed dog.

The second… and this is work in progress.. is for a family with a whippet who loves to chase squirrels. More work to be done here.

So from one of my dogs, to one of today’s featured artist Andrew Shek.

When you consider the very impressive client list including DreamWorks, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Walt Disney Pictures, then it’s easy to realise

why the work of Andrew is so good and sooo sought after.

He has quite a range of wonderful styles under his illustrative belt.

And I really like how he shows his stetch-books on his blog, to reveal how he creates such wonderfully expressive characters.

There’s hours and hours and hours .. of practise going on here. Close up studies, field trips to Zoos etc, working from images all to really capture these animals personally. He then can interpret characteristics and mannerisms which breathe life into his artistic creations. Superb !

How fab to see a giraffe sitting crossed legged on the grass, or these zebra’s legs disappearing to tiny points from their tubby torsos.. lol

Such beautifully, well observed shapes, help to craft each animal’s character.

From proud, distinguished Lions(above), to spikey, angluar Rhinos (below).

His mammoths and elephants are certainly amongst my favourites.

This close up is wonderful, you get a real sense of scale and being looked down upon.
