Vintage Children’s Book Covers
March 15, 2013
I get many requests for blog posts on Vintage Book Covers, so I thought I’d put together another one. Starting off with a few for the younger readers.
This lovely Mary Blair pink cover below and the foolish fishermen with illustrations by Bernice Myers.
One from Alain Gree above and another from the talented Roger Duvoisin below.
Some for an older audience.
And some for those enquiring minds.
I particularly liked Merton and his Moving Van with illustrations by the talented Art Seiden.

You made my morning thank you
Hi Jacqui. I’m so glad : )
“never tease a weasel”. Wise words!
I thought you might like that one lol
Fabulous! What a great collection.
Thanks Belinda, there’s so many amazing covers to choose from. It’s such a shame these items don’t exist in a book, they would be great to look at themselves !
A book of vintage children’s book covers! That’s a great idea! I have a few vintage Puffins and the artwork is stunning. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks Claire, I thought that after I’d written it. Of course some already exist like the Puffin Postcard Collection http://www.amazon.co.uk/Postcards-Puffin-100-Book-Covers/dp/0141333375 or the Penguin one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Postcards-From-Penguin-Book-Jackets/dp/0141044667/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_z/277-4014773-7286456. But a book with all the vintage american and british ones would be fascinating. What a huge project !
These brought back some memories! I used to pour over the “How and Why” books and I’m certain I owned “Myths and Legends”, but I may just have to look up “Six Foolish Fishermen”!
Thanks Cindi, I’m certain I had some How and Why too but which I can’t be certain. I vaguely remember a younger book called something like The Little Lost Zebra but haven’t come across it since I was 4. Keep your eyes peeled for me lol
taking me back to childhood here… long summer days with hours of time to find a quiet corner and escape within the covers of a book.
ahh yes (sighs) I do like the image you’re creating, I wonder will we ever get that time again ?
you are giving it to us, a snippet at a time!
You’re too kind, and what a lovely thought. Thank you
