Fishink and Hannah Turner Ceramics
Good Monday everyone… have you voted for my blog yet in the UK’s Blog awards ? No… well it takes just a minute of your time and a couple of clicks so please do it now and here … every vote helps believe me : ) Pass it onto your friends too, Many thankyous.
One of the new pastimes I’ve been able to re-discover is ceramics. Bearing in mind that I’ve not thrown on a potters-wheel since the age of seventeen, I was delighted with my first results. I need to learn to throw with thinner walls and not leave the bases quite so chunky, but there’s a beginning that looks promising. I’ll keep you informed as to the ‘hopeful’ progress I make here.
One of my lovely birthday presents (the peacock egg cup holder) led me to this weeks featured artist, talented ceramist Hannah Turner.
Here she is and after starting a ceramics company in 1991, Hannah has gone from strength to strength with her quirky, 50’s inspired designs.
Obviously thery’re right up my street !
They make me smile. Hannah casts things using slip casting, and then creates the surface prints using Illustrator on the computer, rather than hand painting (as she once did). The ceramics are now made in Sri Lanka apart from a few limited edition pieces, but she is developing a range of textiles that will be made in the UK. Can’t wait to see those.
How about some rather fab money banks ? The lion is one of my favourites.
New ceramics for your breakfast table ?
A beautiful bird for your shelf ?
Or even a wee book for the children… something for everyone.
Keep up the great work Hannah. I love them. Pop over to her site here and treat yourself today.
Finally, I just wanted to pay my respects to the great chamelion of music, Mr David Bowie who passed away yesterday after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was such an inspirational, creative soul and encouraged musical and fashion revolutions, over and over again throughout his lifetime. Such a bright spark will be dearly missed, may his music live on and be played loudly.

Good luck in the blog awards!
Cheers Wallace, do ask your friends to vote too : )
Craig, I LOVE your ceramics! I like the ‘nubby’ natural look to them. I think you are off to a great start! Doesn’t even look like beginner work to me! I had a go round with the old potters wheel when I was about 20, but hated the feel of clay under my fingernails, ha! I like your featured artist too. I’m off to vote for you! cheers! (oh yes, sad about David Bowie, interesting person.)
wow… “daily voting limit reached” ? I shall return!
Hi Joy, many thanks for your fab comments on my new endeavours and for trying to vote and declaring your return….
