Manchester School of Art Degree Show 2015 Pt 1
Yesterday, I went along to view the MMU Degree Show. I have been burning the midnight oil, to quickly pull together my favourite graduates and their work for you to see. Aren’t I good to you ? lol
Starting with some beautiful woven and printed textiles.
Lovely subtlety of colour and mood.
These detailed sketches caught my eye.
Also this pyramid shaped, black and white landscape.
A dash of fashion.
Beautiful stationery products and some fun, child-focussed fabrics and camping gear, you would definitely get noticed in !
These moody images made me think of badges in my childhood that used to visually move when you tilted them.
Crazy mishmash ceramics.
Quirky, curly lighting and textural ceramics.
Beautifully crafted 3-d, box framed scenes, that move when you turn a handle.
Decorative structures to wear. Which made me think of Nora Fok, Junya Watanabe, Issey Miyake and Grace Jones all rolled into one lol
Finally a few animal characters transformed into jewellery pieces. Great fun !
Look out for part two on here on Friday, and my highlights from the Illustration, Fine Art and Graphics departments. The show is on until the 24th June, so get along and see it for yourself. Do let me know your thoughts on this post, of course : )
Wow, there are some very talented artists coming through aren’t there? I love the 3D paper sculptures, they look like they would have taken months to make!! Looking forward to part 2 already……!
So many talented peeps Lizzie, pity I didn’t have time to include them all. The paper cuts were fab. That’s one graduate with an eye for detail and a calm nature I’d imagine : )
Definitely has patience and a steady hand too I bet!! I hope to catch it if its still on when I get back!
Good to see such a concentrated pool of talent.
I agree Andrew, although there were definitely a few ‘near misses’ too. I looked at their degree space and thought, ‘So this is the best you have to offer after three years ?’ I was quite surprised what chances some people are happy to discard.
Once again, you’re off having a grand time… happy for you. I am admiring the woven textiles; the subdued colors, pattern, texture. I suppose I go for them because I could imagine them tossed across a bed, the arm of a chair next to a window with a beautiful view of nature, or casually wrapped around my shoulders. I like the earthly-looking ceramics too.
Thanks Joy, I’m thinking that there must be graduation shows in your neck of the woods ? Surprise me and go visit for yourself. It’s a treat. (must take pics) : )
A ‘local’ art gallery… a college… I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for a show.
There we go, just google it and they’ll tell you when the show is on. Great news : )
Fabulous, was there for a few hours but had to catch the coach back home. Shame I didn’t see it all but I was very impressed with the varied styles of work involved.
Thanks Rosie, more to come on friday so keep an eye out for that. Almost too much to see in one sitting anyway. Nice to dip in and take a memory away with you
Some lovely work here. Talented hard working students. Good to see!
Thanks and nice to hear from you. Hope all is well
It has been better thanks Craig, way better. But, hey ho, head down and get through it. Looking at and being inspired by lovely arty photos helps! Kate x
Sending Reiki thoughts your way Kate. May your hardships be short lived. Glad the photos and art is a momentary distraction. More degree show work Tom x
